At Mount Carmel, students are given many opportunities to develop leadership skills, while learning the importance of service to their community.

Our students enjoy many opportunities to develop their leadership skills, show responsibility, grow in confidence, and organise, support and lead others throughout their time at Mount Carmel.

The size of our school fosters peer support, and the natural way in which older students care for younger ones is both acknowledged and celebrated. We recognise the diverse gifts needed to build a strong school community. Effective leadership lies in the understanding that balanced teams – comprising encouragers, listeners, communicators, innovators, and organisers—are the most successful.

Our student leadership programs offer a wide range of opportunities for students to explore and develop their leadership potential. From student committees to outreach initiatives, we provide platforms where students of all ages can actively participate, collaborate, and make a difference.

The Student Leadership body of the School is made up of two Year 10 students as College Co-Captains, six Year 10 House Captains (two from each House) and six Year 6 Primary House Captains (two from each House), eight Year 10 and eight Year 6 Community Captains in the positions of Curriculum, Environment, Mission and Wellbeing (two at each year level in each area) and Year 6 Restorative Leaders. Students in both Year 6 and Year 10 are encouraged to nominate themselves for these roles and participate in the Student Leaders election process.

Our community is built on the traditions of the Sisters of Charity with a strong focus on social justice and outreach programs. Both Primary and Secondary students are encouraged to participate in groups such as Mission Sisters and Mini Vinnies, allowing them to form relationships with the marginalised and stand in solidarity with God’s people from all walks of life; a hallmark of continuing the legacy of the Sisters of Charity.

As we prepare our students for life beyond the College, we are committed to fostering their leadership potential by providing opportunities that develop valuable skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and decision-making. Through strong models of female leadership, we aim to educate independent, confident, articulate women of faith who are committed to justice and equipped to be active contributors to society. These leadership experiences not only build resilience and adaptability in a rapidly changing world, but also instill a deep sense of responsibility, empathy, and an appreciation for inclusivity and diversity in leadership.

College Colour System

Students are recognised for their contribution to both the College and the broader community through the College Colour system. The College Colour is a part of the House system and its aim is to encourage participation and school pride in all aspects of College life. It focuses on encouraging and acknowledging students who participate in school community activities beyond the classroom or students who demonstrate endeavour and/or excellence academically. Points are accrued for participation in activities in the domains of Academic, Cultural, Performing Arts, Service & Outreach, Social Justice and Sports.

The College Colour system illustrates the value the College places on affirming and celebrating accomplishments gained through commitment, determination and teamwork.
