At Mount Carmel College we provide a girls-only environment from Year 3 to Year 10, after which time our students are guaranteed a place at Guilford Young College for Years 11 and 12.

Girls’ schools create a culture of achievement where individuality, creativity and diversity are fostered and celebrated.

Girls find it easier to grow and achieve academically and are more confident learners in a single-sex environment. There are fewer opportunities for stereotyping of subjects and less barriers to girls pursuing their interests, whether they are in sport, academia or other co-curricular areas.

Our belief that girls greatly benefit from single-sex education is backed up by research from around Australia and the rest of the world. Mount Carmel College is proud to be an active member of the Alliance of Girls’ Schools Australasia which is at the forefront of education for women in the 21st century. Their recently produced video about why girls love girls’ schools, Let’s hear it from the girls, talks to girls from Alliance member schools and asks them why they love going to a girls’ school.

Mount Carmel College has a long tradition of breaking gender stereotypes, with students taking up the challenge in Science & Engineering and Maths Challenges along with AFL and Cricket tournaments.

In a girls-only school environment, a girl gets every opportunity and occupies every role: every part in the play, every student leadership role, every position on every team. Not only does she have a wealth of avenues for self-exploration and development, she has a wealth of peer role models.

At Mount Carmel, these leadership opportunities start in primary school – with Primary Leaders, House Captains, Mission Sisters and Restorative Leaders roles.

There are also opportunities for girls to develop their confidence through a range of supported activities; from music competitions and debating to inter-school challenges such as Tournament of the Minds. Every girl can develop her capabilities in an environment where opportunities are endless.
