At Mount Carmel College, learning and wellbeing go hand in hand.
At Mount Carmel College, student wellbeing sits at the heart of everything we do. Learning and wellbeing are fully integrated, rather than being treated separately or in isolation.
We believe a supportive and caring environment helps students succeed both personally and academically. Research shows that when students have higher levels of wellbeing, they are more likely to have higher academic achievement and better mental health.
Inspired by the values of the Sisters of Charity, we create a safe and inclusive space where every student is encouraged to thrive. Our Wellbeing programs focus on emotional, social, and mental health, using trusted resources like the eSafety Commissioner, Headspace, ReachOut, and Bullying! No Way.
We also run programs like URSTRONG and TeachPEEC to develop emotional intelligence, promote kindness, and encourage students to stand up for others. Our dedicated Wellbeing sessions feature guest speakers from Making Jesus Real and Spirit of Jesus, inspiring students to grow personally and build strong relationships.
To support families, we offer access to SchoolTV – an online resource that addresses the modern day realities of raising happy, safe and resilient young people.
Wellbeing is a journey, and we are here for our students every step of the way – helping them build resilience, find balance, and reach their full potential.

What is School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)?
SWPBS is a whole-school framework that brings school communities together to create safe, supportive, and positive learning environments. It encourages a consistent and proactive approach to improving social, emotional, and academic outcomes. This approach is guided by our four core values: Respect, Resilience, Compassion, and Contribution, which shape the expectations and behaviours we promote across all areas of the school.
The Mount Carmel Approach
Our goal is to create a positive and safe school where students feel supported and learn behaviours that reflect our values. We believe every child can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We help students learn from mistakes and build kindness, respect, curiosity, and a sense of contribution. By giving them the right tools and support, we help them become confident learners. We aim to build a connected and caring school community where everyone feels included, heard, and valued.
Restorative Practice aligns closely with the principles of SWPBS, as both approaches focus on promoting positive behaviour through proactive strategies, clear expectations, and supportive relationships.
Mount Carmel is committed to nurturing and caring for our students, with their wellbeing sitting at the heart of what we do.
We strive to provide a safe, supportive and inclusive environment and our guidelines, policies and procedures offer a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for students.
